ASSISTANT DIRECTOR OF PUBLIC RELATIONS
SIGMA PI FRATERNITY

ROLE

The Assistant Director of Public Relations is directly supervised by the Director of Communication and will work within the Communications Department to create and execute the Fraternity’s comprehensive communication strategy which includes: branding, marketing, web development, and public relations. The Assistant Communications Directors also have substantial responsibility for collaboration and communication within other areas of Fraternity operations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Create, cultivate, and solicit content from social media, news distribution, and submissions for potential leads regarding member achievements, chapter events, anniversaries, awards, success stories, announcements, etc.
  • Create and execute various marketing campaigns to increase engagement among all social platforms
  • Update and maintain the Fraternity’s social media presence, including daily monitoring, posting, scheduling, and reporting Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram, and live streaming updates
  • Assist with editorial and event calendars
  • Determine new methods and outlets of communication, such as upcoming social media platforms and changes
  • Serve as Assistant Editor and curate content for The Emerald and The Emerald Online; prepare and plan phone interviews for articles
  • Assist in planning, writing and managing email blasts
  • Curate content for quarterly newsletters
  • Draft and pitch news releases, press releases, media alerts, and other stories
  • Maintain a comprehensive database of targeted volunteers and alumni contacts, as well as content creators for The Emerald
  • Collaborate with staff and volunteers on new ideas, directions, and tools for marketing and communications
  • Prepare weekly reports and maintain regular contact with Director of Communications
  • Assist on projects to promote the Sigma Pi Educational Foundation
  • Assist other departments with projects, including Expansion, Growth, and Member Services.
  • Other duties as deemed appropriate

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

  • This position requires relocation to Nashville, Tennessee
  • Bachelor’s degree required. One to two years of professional work experience preferred
  • Previous related experience in marketing or communications a plus
  • Understanding of the basic principles of public relations and/or marketing
  • Firm grasp of available tools and platforms in the social media space
  • Proficiency in Google Docs, Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
  • Possess excellent written and oral communication and interpersonal skills
  • Good time management skills to handle a variety of projects simultaneously
  • Ability to communicate in a professional manner with community contacts
  • Ability to work well independently, and within a team
  • Commitment to cultural sensitivity and respect for differences
  • Commitment to the continuous improvement of service quality and the organization’s mission

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Knowledge of HTML, website content management, and graphic design a plus
  • Experience in video editing/production software (Final Cut Pro, Adobe Premiere, iMovie, etc.) a plus
  • Membership in a fraternity or sorority preferred 
  • Demonstrate outstanding leadership qualities and the ability to work under pressure
  • Outgoing and innovative personality
